BLS Instructor Course

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor course is a 2-day program, designed to prepare BLS Instructors to disseminate the science, skills and philosophy of resuscitation programs to participants enrolled in BLS & Heartsaver courses.

The AHA Instructor Essentials On-line course provides a model of the behaviors that each module teaches. The course is highly interactive, requiring candidates to make decisions, engage in dialogue and reflect on what constitutes quality instruction.

Within 6-months of attending the BLS Instructor course, the instructor candidate must independently organize and present the highest-level course that he/she would like to present, during which he/she will be monitored by the BLS Faculty Member to audit performance, knowledge and skills. The Instructor will also have to make arrangements to align to an existing BLS Training Centre.

After successful monitoring, the instructor candidate is registered with the Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa as a BLS/ HS or RCSA Instructor, capable of teaching American Heart Association and/or Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa CPR & Basic Life Support courses.

Mandatory pre-entry requirements to attend a BLS Instructor Course can be found in Policy 12 on the website.
